In Case You Missed It...March 25th-March 31st

We have had such a great week over here at the Food Nanny. Guys, it's been busy! Food Nanny Sr. is still off traveling the world. She is now in France getting everything ready for our trip this summer. We can hardly wait! It will truly be a trip of a lifetime.

Kamut German Pancakes

We were so excited to have Katie join our live on Tuesday! We just love our family! We showed you how to make our amazing orange rolls. They are the perfect baked good for Spring! We showed you the mini version, but you can make them the same size as a traditional cinnamon roll as well!

Kamut Orange Rolls

Katie also shared with us what finally worked to help get her son to try new things. She was directed by her doctor to head home and get rid of all the processed foods and start fresh. He eventually started trying new things, and now eats just about everything! Your kids won't let themselves starve. Katie is such an inspiration!

After we talked about orange rolls, brunch was definitely our minds! With Easter and General Conference coming up, requests were pouring in for more ideas from us. So we put together a fun list for you with some of our very favorite recipes. Brunch is so fun, because you have so many options. We love to see what you are cooking, so tag us in your pictures the next couple weeks!

On Friday, I showed you how to make our incredible arugula pizza! I really can't get enough of this flavor you guys. I have people all the time tell me they don't love arugula, but then end up loving this pizza. The flavors just work so perfectly together. It ends up tasting so light and fresh! My pizza has gotten so much better since switching to Kamut. I know we say this all the time, but we use it for everything now. We will never go back! Its much better for you and enhances the flavor of everything you make with it. So make sure to come pick some up, or order a bag online!

So we have been telling you the aprons will be here end of March, but we just received word that they are going to miss that deadline. We are so sad about this! It looks like they should still be here within the next week or two thought so we are close! We cannot wait for you to get your hands on them!

We are so excited that our Arizona Kamut pick ups will be open and ready for you end of this week! We will have a location in Mesa and Gilbert. I am so excited for more of you to easily get your Kamut and start cooking with it! Remember that you can always order online even if we don't have a pick up location near you yet.

Favorite Items of the Week:

Here are a few things we have been loving this week!

  1. These amici water glasses! Are these not the cutest? Maybe this would help us all drink a little more water if our cups always looked this cute!

2. Danish Dough Hook: Have you purchased yours yet? We are so obsessed!

3. The shirt Katie wore on Tuesdays live! The print on this shirt makes it perfect for spring!

4. The shirt I wore for Tuesdays live! Don't you just love a well designed white shirt? This one is perfect for just about every occasion.

5. Red Star Active Dry Yeast: Keep this stored in your freezer for years! This is the only yeast we use, its amazing. Grab it at Costco, or at the link above!

In Case You Missed It.... March 18th-March 25th

In Case You Missed It.... March 18th-March 25th

We have had another great week over here. Cooking and taking care of our families sure keeps us busy! If you have been following along on instagram, we have been showing little glimpses of Food Nanny Sr. amazing travels! This week she has shown us around India, and we can't wait to share all the details with you.

On Monday, I gave you a little glimpse into my friend Darcy's amazing kitchen! I have gotten so many questions about kitchen and pantry organization, and she is truly the master! Here's a few clips in case you missed it!

One of our favorite parts of the week is getting on Live and talking to our fannies! If there's something you really want to see us make, make sure and let us know. We are here for you and want to see you cooking in your kitchen! On Tuesday, I showed you a couple of my very favorite salads. Man they are delicious. Eating healthy really doesn't have to be boring or gross. When it comes to makes yummy salads, make sure you have a good salad spinner! It makes your lettuce so much better without all the moisture. I LOVE the Wedge Salad because it works with everything. You can serve it as a side, or make it a meal all on its own. It is so easy and ours really is the best you will ever eat.

I also showed you the Strawberry Days Salad. My mouth is watering just thinking about this one! I became addicted to this while making lunches for friends in Denver. It is a crowd pleasure and sure to impress. It's simple, but different than the boring salad you are used to. Give it a try, we promise you will like it!

If you want to prepare your salads beforehand, cut everything up and add it to your bowl. Keep your dressing separate. Cover your salad with a damp paper towel and refrigerate it till ready to serve. Then add your dressing and you are good to go!

On Friday, Des joined us for such a special live. She is an absolute design genius! Every time we are together, I just try and soak up her wisdom. We were all ready for Spring, so it was a day all about lemon! I showed you our delicious lemon bars. I mixed these up by hand using our favorite Danish Dough Whisk. If you don't have one yet, run (or click on the link) and get one! Such a game changer. Make sure to watch your oven with these, mine cooked so fast! Des also showed us her Lemon Mouse. TDF! Don't worry, the recipe is coming soon! She served the mouse with lavender cookies, and I felt so fancy!

Des really is so talented. She has inspired everything in our homes and changed the way we look at decor. It's all about finding your own style and what brings you happiness. Des always says to embrace the imperfections in things. Homes are meant to be lived in and things are meant to be used! I couldn't love this more with a house full of little kids!

When you are looking for new pieces in your home, do not get overwhelmed. Take it one item at a time. Des taught us that you can mix inexpensive with expensive, old with new. Find what speaks to you! And take it layer by layer so it's not as much at once. Stick with historical concepts, design from your heart, and you will never get sick of your home! We learn so much from Des and love every time we get to show her off.

Don't miss out on the exciting week we have ahead on TheFoodNanny! If you want to cook along side us, here is our menu. Keep cooking, your family is worth it!

Monday: Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes with Ham and Corn

Tuesday: Chicken Piccata with Capers

Wednesday: German Pancakes with Strawberries

Thursday: Beef Enchilada Supper

Friday: Arugula Pizza with Cherry Tomatoes

Saturday: Grilled Hamburgers

In Case You Missed It.... March 11th-March 17th

It was another great week over here! While Food Nanny Sr. has been having a blast in Thailand, Food Nanny Jr. has been here holding down the fort.

On Tuesday, we had such a fun live with our sister Aimee all about St. Patricks Day. If you watched it, isn't Aimee just the best? We have too much fun together. We showed you guys how to make our fruit tart St. Patricks Day style, and how to make our sugar cookie bars. You can get both recipes here. Oh my gosh these are both amazing. You guys have been making both desserts up a storm this week, and we love seeing them! If you weren't able to make them for St. Patrick's Day, don't worry! Make either of these any time! Just switch up the frosting color, fruit used, sprinkles, whatever! Thats what makes these so amazing.

And then on Friday we had the best live with Courtney from cakebycourtney. You guys, we can't get over how talented she is! We just love her. We make some pretty amazing cakes, but decorating them really isn't our specialty. But we are trying! Courtney really does make it look so easy and her tools make such a difference. You can shop all of her amazing products here. Now we just need her to create a Kamut cake!

Does this not look unbelievable? We made her new Lemon Bar cake and wow it was yummy. It's all about practice, so don't get discouraged when it doesn't look like this the first few tries. Here are some tips to help:

  • Work on chilled cake! Make it ahead of time, wrap, and place in the freezer. This will help keep the crumbs in place.
  • Use cold butter!
  • First do a crumb coat, and then put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Once you pull it out, then its time to use the acrylic disk!
  • You can drive yourself CRAZY trying to make it perfect. So don't! Work till you have one good side and then call it good.
  • Use the danish dough whisk. We promise, you NEED this! And Courtney even uses the same jars we do! Filled with flour, sugar, powdered sugar, you name it!
  • Courtney has the best tips and tutorials! Make sure you are following her.

We have another great week ahead, so stay tuned! And here's what we are serving:

Monday: Chicken Tenders with green chili sauce

Tuesday: Spaghetti and Meat Sauce

Wednesday: Monte Cristo Sandwich

Thursday: Beef and Bacon Taco Soup

Friday: Choose a Flavor Pizza!

Saturday: Grilled Salmon

Sunday: Chinese Sundaes Kids will Love

In Case You Missed It... March 4th-March 10th

It was another great week over here! Here's some things we have been up to.

On Tuesday, we had such a great live. We talked about one of our favorite books, Home Sweet Maison: The French Art of Making a Home. We are proud Americans over here, but we love sharing different things we love about other cultures! Thanks to Mr. Food Nanny being a pilot, we have been blessed to see so much of the world. It's no surprise that France has always been one of our favorite places to visit. We love the food, the culture, and just the way they live! If you tuned in for the live, you saw us make a new favorite dessert, fondant au chocolat. It is AMAZING! And uses ingredients we always have on hand. Here is the recipe, tweeked a little to be our own!

Charlotte's Fondant Au Chocolat
(The Food Nanny Way)

Ingredients: 5 large eggs
1 1/4 sticks of butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Dark Chocolate
1 Tablespoon Kamut Flour
Instructions:
~Preheat the oven to 390 degrees.
~Break the 5 eggs into the mixing bowl and whip with a whisk (we can't get enough of the Danish Dough Whisk. You NEED one!
~Melt the butter, sugar, and dark chocolate in a pot over low heat.
~When everything is melted, add one heaping tablespoon of flour.
~Mix until creamy.
~Using a rubber spatula, add the melted chocolate mixture to the eggs, and stir until it becomes the consistency of pudding.
~Transfer into ramekins and put in the oven for about 15-18 minutes.
~Serve hot, and ENJOY!

As of this week, our Amazon favorites list is ready to shop. We have been gathering a list of our favorite things for sometime now, and are so happy to finally have it available for you! To get there, either click on the link on our instagram profile, and select Amazon Favorites, or go to: https://www.amazon.com/shop/thefoodnanny . We hope you are as excited as we are about this!

And then for our Friday live, we let you decide between a bread and pizza. The people voted, and Bread it was! We decided to show you our delicious Hearth bread. Food Nanny Jr. almost didn't make it thanks to a crazy snow storm but luckily it all worked out. The Kamut in the bread makes it next level! It is dense, but has such a simple and delicious flavor. You need this in your life, especially if you love a good country white bread.

Thanks for joining us for another great week! Even though Food Nanny Sr. will be off on an amazing adventure, Food Nanny Jr. will be holding down the fort for us this week. We have some fun things planned, so stay tuned! And here's what we will be cooking:

Monday: 3 Bean Chili with Corn Bread

Tuesday: Pasta with Hot Italian Sausage

Wednesday: Fish Tacos

Thursday: Chicken Fajita Soup

Friday: Authentic Margherita Pizza

Saturday: Grilled Chicken Tenders with Brown Rice

Sunday: Tri Tip Roast with Red Potatoes

And remember... Keep Cooking, Your Family is Worth It!

In case you missed it...

In case you missed it...

Happy Monday Fannies! We have decided to start something new around here with a weekly recap post. This way you can stay up to date with everything happening over on instagram, even if you miss a couple posts. And what a week we just had! It was absolutely incredible! Here are a few of the highlights.

Our Warehouse is OPEN! Its a one stop shop, so you can come grab the hot pads, books, Kamut, salt, EVERYTHING! The pickups are still available for Kamut as well, and we can't wait to get our new pickup locations up and running. Address: 4100 South West Temple Salt Lake

On Tuesday, we had a live showing you our amazing Lasagna Bolognese with Bechamel Sauce. Oh man, this is incredible! It is one of our most time consuming recipes, but we promise its worth it. Food Nanny Sr. put this recipe together after trying it at Bruno's Restaurant on Costa del Sol, Spain. The béchamel (white) sauce makes all the difference. We love using De Cecco brand lasagna noodles. They are the absolute best, besides homemade of course. Stay tuned, we will be showing you homemade kamut noodles soon! What we like most about this lasagna is its very light. We made it with our delicious Italian Bread, but it also pairs well with a salad. Make this for your family, we promise you will not be disappointed!

Another highlight of this week was getting invited to Studio 5 with Brooke Walker. This was a dream! She was so amazingly kind. It was an emotional experience getting to talk about our instagram and some of our favorite things. Its such an honor to be able to share our love for food and family with so many of you! Click here to watch the segment. And if you haven't made our French Croque Monsieur sandwich yet, you are missing out!

We also posted about our Strawberries and Cream cupcakes and you guys were in love! The cake version that we have been cooking for years is unreal, and the cupcake version does not disappoint. You have to give it a try next time you are asked to bring a dessert, it is a total crowd pleaser.

Since we had our big Live with Charlotte from Vivi et Margot on Saturday, we decided to show you a quick and easy pasta in stories on Friday. Make this spaghetti with quick tomato sauce (page 64 from the first book) on a busy weeknight! The key to making this yummy is to use quality ingredients like these tomatoes. Dinner really doesn't need to be complicated to be delicious.

Now for our Live with Vivi et Margot! We have been such huge fans of hers for years. She shares our love for all things French, and it was so fun bonding over that. Her shop truly speaks to our heart. If you missed the live, make sure and watch it for her whole story. We asked her what the most important thing we can do to make our homes feels more french, and her answer was add BASKETS! You guys know how obsessed we are with these. Food Nanny Sr. has been bringing them home from France for years. We have them everywhere! Remember the amazing kitchen remodel? Its designed around these baskets! The love runs deep. If you don't have a basket in your home, run to her website! They are all handmade and add so much character.

She left us with some gifts from her shop and we are in love! Everything is perfection, from a new bread basket, a soap cube, the softest tea towels, and a filt bag! She even left us a new basket to bring more French into our home. Getting to know Charlotte and having the opportunity to cook with her was something we will never forget. She is such an inspiration. Check out her website and thank us later!

The Food Nanny Philosophy on Family & Dinnertime

The Food Nanny Philosophy on Family & Dinnertime

Why dinnertime?

Food is an integral part of our lives, so why not make it as important as it should be. Dinnertime was the foundation of my day when I was raising my family. First thing in the morning, I made sure that all the ingredients I needed for my meal that evening were at hand. Doing this ensured that preparing dinner would go a lot smoother and make the whole process more enjoyable.

The Beauty of Meal Planning

My philosophy on dinnertime has truly shaped a lifestyle for me and my family. I mentioned meal planning a few times above because it makes all the difference! When I sit down every two weeks to make a meal plan, I follow my “Theme Nights” to keep things simple, stress free, healthy and happy. It has liberated me from stressing about dinnertime. As a mother of seven children, I couldn’t ask for anything more. Believe it or not, meal planning made dinner prep fun! I’ve always said that when you make dinner happen everyone wins! I have a variety of tools to help you get started meal planning. First off you can download my Two Week Meal Plan Template by clicking here. Don’t want to have to think of your own recipes? No problem! Every two weeks I post the meal plan I use on my website. You are welcome to use that one and cook along with me. Also, don’t forget to tune in to watch our Live Videos on Instagram & Facebook, where we often show how to make the meals on our Meal Plan. All the best to all of you care-givers wherever you may be. Putting dinner on the table for my family on a consistent basis was the one most fulfilling things I ever did! It was so gratifying to see how much everyone appreciated a good hot meal and how it has bonded our family forever. xoxo The Food Nanny
