Why Kamut?
Ancient grain. Simple ingredients. Naturally nutritious.
Kamut is the Ancient Egyptian word for wheat. Kamut® wheat has escaped the genetic engineering of modern wheat and traces its pure pedigree back to only 36 grains.Often nicknamed “King Tut’s Wheat,” the grain was reintroduced in the United States after a small number of kernels made their way to a Montana farmer in 1949. From those humble beginnings grew the KAMUT® brand we know today.
So, why Kamut?
Because KAMUT® brand wheat has remained true to its ancient roots. It has never been hybridized or genetically modified and is always certified organic. The KAMUT® trademark helps protect and preserve this ancient variety of Khorasan wheat and establishes standards for how it is grown and sold.
But what really makes Kamut® special is what's naturally inside the grain.
Kamut® is naturally rich in protein, fiber, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. According to USDA nutritional data, 100 grams of KAMUT® brand wheat provides approximately 16 grams of protein and 11.1 grams of fiber.
Whole grains and fiber can also be an important part of a balanced diet. A large review commissioned by the World Health Organization found that higher dietary fiber and whole-grain intake was associated with lower risks of several major chronic diseases. The greatest benefits were observed at fiber intakes of approximately 25–29 grams or more per day.
For us, Kamut® is about going back to something simpler: an ancient grain, grown organically, preserved for generations, and packed with naturally occurring nutrition.
