Old School Hamburger Stew

Ingredients

  • 1 medium yellow onion minced
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 4-6 cups canned beef broth (can substitute beef bouillon cubes reconstituted with water)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 fresh tomato chopped
  • 1 tsp steak sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3 medium carrots peeled and chopped fine
  • 4 small red or Yukon Gold potatoes peeled and diced
  • 3 stalks celery chopped fine

Instructions

  1. In a large pot saute the minced onion in olive oil for 3 minutes. Add the ground beef- don't break it up too much- cook until browned. Drain off excess fat. Add the cumin. Brown for 3 more minutes.

  2. Add the beef broth and all remaining ingredients. Simmer another 30 minutes until the vegetables are tender
